On the morning of October 10th, the collective creationactivityof ceramic art works for the 110thanniversary ofJCUwas held on Xianghu Campus. Mei Shican, Party Secretary ofJCU, andVice President Lv Pinchang,Vice Party Secretary Hu Linrong, former President NingGang,Vice President Chen Yun-xia, Director of the Department of Publicity, Zeng Desheng, senior artists professor Zhou Guozhen, professor Li Jvsheng, professor Zhong Liansheng, professor Qian Longdian, professor Luo Xiaotao and Ning Qinzheng, Head of Jingdezhen Alumni Association attended the opening ceremony. More than 260 people attended the opening ceremony, including alumni representatives of Jingdezhen Alumni Association, retired artists, representatives of China Institute of Light Industrial Ceramics, heads of each school (department), teachers and students. Vice President Lv Jinquan presided over the meeting.
At the opening ceremony, Mei Shican, Party Secretary ofJCU,announcedthe start of the collectivecreation activity.
Deputy Party Secretary,Vice President Lv Pinchang delivered a speech.In the speech,he pointed out thatJCUwas established and honored for porcelain. Over the past110years,JCUhas been adhering to the mission of "carrying forward Chinese ceramic culture and revitalizing China's ceramic industry", and has made outstanding achievements intalenttraining, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, as well as international exchanges and cooperation. In particular,JCUhas delivered a large number of outstanding professionals to the country, created a unique "JCUphenomenon", and enjoys the reputation of "the CeramicWestPoint ".
Lv Pinchang stressed that culture and art are the trumpet calling for the advancement of the times, the important force for the survival and development of a nation, and can best represent the style of an era and lead the fashion of an era. He said, "As ceramic artists and educators, while inheriting the excellent traditional culture, we should also become theprophets, forerunners, and pacemakers of the times." By creating ceramic art works with strength, morality and temperature, recording the great practice of people's art, we then praiseJCU's historical achievements of 110 years." He hopes that teachers, alumni, students hold up the brush, and paint the blueprint which carries the dream and hope ofJCUwith clay of historical temperature. Moreover, he hoped that the teachers and students ofJCUand alumni will adhere to the craftsmanship, holdhighthe banner ofJCUspirit, set up the spiritual pillar ofJCU, build the spiritual home ofJCU, and create the "treasure of the 110thanniversary celebration" worthy ofthetimes.
After a brief opening ceremony, the collective creation officially began.White body, biscuit and various kinds of ceramic pigment were neatly placed on the table. The site was divided into eight areasfor eight groups: School of Ceramics and Fine Arts, School of Design and Art,School of Art and Archaeology,College of Science, Technology and Art, China Institute of Light Industrial Ceramics,retired teachers, alumni representatives and student representatives. More than 150 artists, using porcelain as the medium and brush as the tool to express their feelings, exhibit their skills and develop their passion for creation through mutual discussion and communication. Each piece of work, whether its subject is about landscape, birds and flowers or calligraphy, whether it is overglaze or underglaze, carries the artist's best wishes and expectations forJCU.
Professor Zhou Guozhen, a 90-year-old artist, created the work “HopeGoes toYoung People” on the spot."I drew a group of chickens. They symbolize young people, on whom we place our hopes."he said.
"I came to study atJCUin the year 1977, after graduation I stayed here as a teacher. During the passing years I witnessed the earth-shaking changes here atJCU. So I am particularly happy.I created 'Sunny' with sunflower as the element to express my best wishes forJCU." said Yang Bing, a retired teacher.
"I wrote two sentences on the vase, 'Peace in the Heart' and 'Great works in the Hand', to express my feelings towards the 110thanniversary ofJCU." saidHuang Sheng, a professor from School of Ceramics and Fine Arts who has worked there for more than 30 years. He also told the reporters that he wishedJCUa brighter future and greaterachievements.
Zhang Yaolin,an alumnus ofGrade1965, painted the work "Fish Swimming Around to Find a Friend "He explained thatfish from all over the world searchingfor a friend symbolizes the reunion of friends together. "I am very happy and grateful to receive the invitation from my Alma mater. I am very fortunate to see the development of the school and to know that two generations of my family are students ofJCU."
"Gesang flowers, also known as happiness flowers, are beautiful but not delicate. They are not afraid of the cold and frost. They are just like the feelings of all our students towardsJCU." Wang Manli, an alumnaof Grade 2013, created the vase "Bloom" with Gesang flowers as the theme. She is especially grateful for the cultivation ofJCU. As a young student ofJCU, she wishes thatJCU can make more achievements, and continue to create a brilliant future.
"Tobein accordance with the theme of the 110thanniversary celebration ofJCU, I created the work 'Peach and Plum All over the World', which symbolizesJCU's fruitful achievements in talent cultivation over the past 110 years. I also wishJCUa more glorious journey and a more outstanding generation of talents," said Wang Yunyun, a student from Class 6, Grade 2018 majoringin ceramic art .
On October 20,JCUwill celebrate its 110thanniversary. Then a series of activities will be held including the kiln fire transmission, theme conference, academic forum, the unveiling of Chinese couplets hall, ceramic art exhibition, and original drama performance of the university history. This collective creation activity is also one of the anniversary activities.
