On the afternoon of October 29, a delegation led by Somov Denis Sergeevich, President of Gzhel State University in Russia, visited JCU for an academic exchange. The group was received by Professor Lyu Pinchang, Acting President of JCU. A discussion was held in the conference room on the first floor of JCU Museum, attended by representatives from the International School, Academic Affairs Office, Science and Technology Office, School of Design and Art, School of Fine Arts, and the Entrepreneurship College.


Participants from both sides first watched promotional videos of their respective universities. Professor Lyu introduced JCU’s rich history and achievements in international cooperation. He noted that JCU, a multidisciplinary university renowned for its ceramic heritage, has become a vital center for ceramic talent cultivation, technological innovation, and cultural exchange on a national and global scale.
He highlighted JCU’s collaborations with over 50 universities worldwide, its leadership in establishing the “Ceramic Road” International Ceramic Education Alliance, and its influential initiatives such as the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale and theoverseasTang Ying Ceramic Workshop cultural centers. Lyu expressed his hope that this meeting would serve as a platform to build a strong partnership with Gzhel State University, fostering deeper cooperation in ceramics, science, and other fields, leveraging each institution’s strengths to achieve mutual development.

President Somov Denis Sergeevich shared insights about Gzhel State University, emphasizing its similarities with JCU in institutional history and focus on key disciplines. He stated that the purpose of their visit was to learn from JCU’s expertise in ceramic craftsmanship and art design education. He expressed optimism about establishing a strong collaborative relationship between the two universities, facilitating student and faculty exchanges, resource sharing, and complementary advantages. Such efforts, he added, could significantly enhance international cooperation between China and Russia.

During the meeting, the two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize their collaboration.


The delegation also visited JCU’s exhibition “Art as a Carrier of Culture: Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China” and the Yuan Dynasty Blue and White Porcelain Museum. These visits offered the delegation a closer look at JCU’s achievements in ceramic art education and cultural preservation.
